Discussion page·4 threads·no archives

This article is within the scope of the pharmacology working group.

This is the discussion page for the article Enteroendocrine L cell. It is for improving the article: sources, wording, structure, scope and titles. It is not a general discussion forum about the subject, and it is not a place to ask for advice — see Project:Medical disclaimer.

L-cell regeneration timescale — sourced?

The 3–5 day lifespan for L cells is stated without a specific citation. I found this cited in some reviews of intestinal epithelial turnover but would like a primary study demonstrating it specifically for L cells. — CitationChaser (talk) 10:15, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Fair point. The figure comes from extrapolation of general epithelial-turnover kinetics. Reworded to attribute it to reviews rather than implying direct measurement. — Chromatokid (talk) 14:22, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Microbiome mention feels speculativeResolved

The section "Morphology and distribution" notes L-cell location "links L-cell function to the microbiome" but the article does not return to this or substantiate it. Either expand the connection or remove it to avoid leaving a dangling implication. — NPOV_Nadia (talk) 11:40, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

Removed the speculative link. The location fact is solid; the microbiome connection belongs in articles on microbiota or dysbiosis, not here. ✓ DoneHedgerow_Hal (talk) 16:05, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

Resolved. This thread is closed. Reopening it is fine if new sources appear; please add a new subsection rather than editing the closed discussion.

Plasticity section: obesity claim needs updating

The statement "the relationship between obesity and L-cell function in humans remains incompletely characterised" is somewhat dated. There have been recent studies on GLP-1 response in obesity and metabolic dysfunction. Should this be updated? — Peptide_Pete (talk) 09:22, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

If you can find a recent review summarising the state of knowledge on human L-cell function in obesity, please propose specific new language. The current phrasing is defensible but updating would be welcome. — Ref_Desk_Ron (talk) 11:50, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

Should this article cover L-cell-derived peptides beyond GLP-1?Done

L cells also produce GLP-2, PYY and other bioactive peptides. The article focuses entirely on GLP-1. Is the scope too narrow, or is Glucagon-like peptide-1 the better home for the other peptides? — AnalyticalAnnie (talk) 13:05, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

GLP-1 is by far the most clinically relevant for this wiki. Other peptides can be mentioned briefly but this article should remain GLP-1-focused. A separate "Gut peptides" or "L-cell peptide products" article might be valuable but is out of scope here. ✓ DoneChromatokid (talk) 15:30, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
