Copyright and takedown

PeptidePedia Wiki respects copyright. All article text is original to the site, and generated illustrations are produced for it, but a wiki accepts contributions from many people and material may occasionally be added that should not have been. This page explains how to have such material removed.

Send a written notice to the site's designated agent, through the correspondence address published in the site's project namespace, including all of the following:

1. identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed;
2. the URL of each page on peptidepediawiki.com where the material appears, and enough detail to locate the specific passage — a whole-article assertion is not actionable;
3. your name, postal address and email address;
4. a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law;
5. a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf;
6. your physical or electronic signature.

Incomplete notices cannot be acted on and will be answered with a request for the missing element.

Complete notices are acted on expeditiously. The usual outcome is removal or rewriting of the passage, since a reference work can almost always restate a sourced fact in its own words — the fact itself is not copyrightable, only the expression.

The removal is logged in the site's public deletion log with the article, the date and the reason, without the complainant's personal details. The contributing editor is notified on their user talk page.

An editor who believes material was removed in error may file a counter-notice containing: identification of the removed material and its former location; a statement under penalty of perjury that they have a good-faith belief the removal was mistaken; their contact details; consent to jurisdiction; and their signature. Material may be restored after the statutory waiting period unless court proceedings are commenced.

Accounts that repeatedly add infringing material are blocked. This is a conduct matter and is handled under the deletion and blocking policies rather than by correspondence.

Certificates of analysis and test reports raise a distinct question, and the site's practice is worth stating plainly.

PeptidePedia Wiki does not host reproductions of third-party laboratory documents. Where a report is relevant, articles describe it — the issuing laboratory, the analyte, the reported value, the date and the route by which it reached the wiki — and cite it. Description of a factual document is not reproduction of it, and the factual content of a report is not copyrightable expression.

A request to remove a *description* of a genuine report is not a copyright matter and will be treated as a factual-accuracy question on the article's talk page instead. A claim that a circulating report is forged is taken seriously and is handled the same way, on the record.

Trade names, company names and product names are used nominatively, to identify the things they name. Their use here implies no affiliation with, or endorsement by, their proprietors. Requests to remove a nominative reference are declined, since a reference work cannot describe a product without naming it.
