Janoshik Analytical is an independent laboratory that performs chromatographic and mass-spectrometric analysis on peptide samples submitted by purchasers. It is one of four testing and review services referred to throughout this wiki; the others are Medutest, PeptideMeter and VendorInvestigate.[1]

Its distinguishing documented practice is the release of the underlying chromatogram alongside the numeric result. A released chromatogram allows a reader to see peak shape, baseline, integration boundaries and the presence of minor peaks, none of which is recoverable from a single area percent figure.[2]

Reports are issued to the submitter rather than to the supplier of the material. This is the structural feature that makes them third-party rather than supplier-commissioned, and it is independent of the analytical quality of the work, which is governed by ordinary laboratory competence requirements.[3]

What the reports contain

Reports submitted to this wiki by contributors have consistently included a chromatogram, an area percent purity figure with the integration visible, and — where requested — a mass determination confirming the observed mass against the calculated one.[1]

The value of the released chromatogram is that it converts an assertion into something checkable. An area percent figure of 99.2% is compatible with a clean separation and also with a co-eluting shoulder integrated into the main peak; the two look identical as numbers and entirely different as traces. Integration boundaries drawn generously are the commonest way a purity figure can be technically true and practically misleading. See Area percent purity.

What a report of this kind does not contain, unless separately commissioned, is a peptide content determination or a water figure. Without those the mass of active substance in a vial cannot be derived from the purity figure, however clean the trace.[2]

Position in the evidence chain

An analytical report is evidence about the sample analysed. Extending it to the lot requires knowing how the sample was drawn, which the laboratory does not control; extending it to the supplier requires many lots over time.[1]

Submissions reaching this wiki are self-selected in two ways: purchasers who commission testing are not a random sample of purchasers, and results that are submitted are not a random sample of results obtained. Both effects are expected to bias a tally in a favourable direction, and the community tally on this wiki is annotated accordingly.

Where a submitted report and a supplier's certificate cover the same lot, agreement between them establishes that two measurements agreed. It does not establish that the sample represented the lot, and it is not a substitute for blind sampling with a documented chain of custody.[2]

Interpreting a chromatogram

None of these is a defect on its own, and a trace showing them is not evidence of poor material. They are the features whose absence from a bare numeric figure is the reason a released chromatogram is worth more than one.[2]
