This glossary defines terms used across PeptidePedia Wiki. Each entry gives a short definition and, where a full article exists, links to it. Terms are grouped by domain and ordered alphabetically within each group.[1]
Definitions here are deliberately brief. Where a term carries a distinction that matters — purity against content, sterility against endotoxin freedom, contraindication against warning — the entry states the distinction and the article develops it.[2]
The glossary is not a substitute for the articles and does not attempt completeness.[3]
Chemistry and manufacture
[edit]- Aib
- α-aminoisobutyric acid, a non-proteinogenic residue used to block DPP-4 cleavage.
- Acylation
- Attachment of a fatty acid to a peptide, usually for albumin binding.
- Crude
- The material obtained directly after cleavage, before purification. See Crude peptide.
- Deletion sequence
- A synthesis by-product missing one or more residues.
- Fmoc
- The base-labile temporary protecting group scheme dominating peptide synthesis.
- Linker
- The resin attachment defining the C-terminal functionality of the finished peptide.
- Lyophilisation
- Freeze-drying; the isolation step producing the powder in a vial. See Lyophilisation.
- SPPS
- Assembly of a peptide on an insoluble support.
- TFA salt
- The salt form in which most reverse-phase-purified peptides are isolated.[1]
Analysis and documentation
[edit]- Area percent
- Main-peak area over total integrated area; normalised, and independent of quantity.
- Batch number
- The identifier linking a container to production records.
- COA
- The document a supplier issues reporting determinations on a lot.
- Endotoxin
- Lipopolysaccharide from Gram-negative bacteria; survives sterilisation.
- Karl Fischer
- A water-specific determination, as distinct from loss on drying.
- LOD
- The lowest level at which presence can be distinguished from background.
- Peptide content
- The mass fraction of a solid that is peptide; not purity.
- Reference standard
- A characterised material of assigned content used for calibration.
- Retention time
- Time from injection to peak; characteristic under fixed conditions.
- Stability-indicating
- Of a method, able to resolve degradation products from the parent.[2]
Clinical and evidence
[edit]- Placebo-adjusted
- The difference between treatment and comparator arms.
- ITT
- Analysis by randomised assignment, regardless of treatment received.
- NNT
- Reciprocal of the absolute risk reduction, over a stated period.
- Surrogate endpoint
- A measure standing in for an outcome of direct importance.
- Estimand
- A precise statement of the quantity a trial estimates, including how discontinuation is handled.
- Contraindication
- A circumstance in which labelling directs a product is not used; distinct from a warning.
- Research use only
- A presentation, not a quality grade; such material is not approved for human use.[4]
Additional terms are defined where they first appear in the articles. Suggestions for entries belong on the talk page.[3]
